The celebrations started with the theme “You are someone’s type”. The theme was spread in the entire NMIMS campus and a positive buzz was created via Group meetings, e-mail, text, social media, and posters. The event was aimed to create awareness about blood donation and clear the myths surrounding the humble cause. According to current statistics, voluntarily blood donation went down from 55% of the total collection to 45% between 2014 and 2017. Motivated to change the scenario and make more people participate, SRF partnered with, Rotary Club of Bombay West, for the event, which provided the necessary medical facilities and staff. The annual blood donation drive took place on 4th October 2018. This event was conducted on the lounge of the 5th floor of SBM, NMIMS. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Mohan Bhai Patel (Ex-Sheriff of Mumbai), Vice Chancellor Dr. Rajan Saxena and Mr. Anand Gupta, President of the Rotary Club Bombay West.
On the chosen date, a team of SRF volunteers assisted the donors right from signing up for the event, going through the initial medical scan to the final phase of donating the blood. SRF gave Blood Donors a certificate of appreciation for their valuable contribution. The event started with 150 registrations and the no of registrations went up to 400+ by the end of the day. A great number of students were willing to contribute but due to low haemoglobin levels of few students and due to some minor health issues like cold few students were not given permission to donate blood. The process of blood donation took 15 minutes per person. A total of 307 units of blood was collected. The event was a huge success. The Rotary club members felicitated SRF committee members for the impeccable effort that the committee had shown in the coordination of the event.
