The event was a great success and witnessed a whooping sale of 2.37 lacs. It saw the active participation of 29 NGOs, 46 teams and 100 product categories to shop from. Some of the participating NGOs were Sound of Silence, Navjeevan Centre, Shanti Hastkala, Kaladarshini, Aseema, Touching lives and others. The NGOs worked in varying fields such as child rights, elderly, education, nutrition and for other noble causes. The NGOs had put up an exhibition in stalls in three different lounges in the premise. The products displayed included a variety of art work ranging from hand crafted bags, painted t-shirts, jute footwear, environment friendly notebooks, boutiques to other art work. Sound of Silence deserve special mention for its delicious cup cakes and muffins. The event started at 8:30 in the morning and lasted till 6 o clock in the evening.
The event was made a success with the participation of wide number of students in teams. SRF held competitions and various sub contests for the students on the day. Subcontests such as Tweet- A- Quiz, NGO Mela Snapstar, Best Team Name, The Sales force witnessed great enthusiasm from students.The participating teams of the NGO Mela contest tested their socio- marketing skills and racked up the sales of 60000 in all.
The preparation of the event started almost a month before starting with planning out the event, allocations of tasks, logistics and setting up exhibitions stalls and laying out the event. All the members of the committee worked hard in coordinating with the NGOs and extended a warm welcome to make them feel comfortable at the campus.
The NGO mela has seen an ever increasing trend in rise of the sales dating back from 2011. In 2011, only 8 NGOs participated and the sales amount was Rs 35,899. Today in 2015 it reached a figure of 2.37 lacs. The event succeded in creating awareness among students about different social issues, sensitizing them on it. It also strengthened the networking between students and NGO for prospective future benefits.
